Grand Pré Wines named this traditional method sparkling wine after Samuel de Champlain, who mapped Nova Scotia during the earliest French and Acadian settlement in what was then L’Acadie. In fact, that’s a self-portrait of Champlain in the compass rose sun on his 1613 map of this area. This sparkling wine has been made from a blend of L’Acadie Blanc and Seyval Blanc grapes grown here on the slopes above Grand Pré meadows.

Light straw in colour with glints of bright gold. Complex hints of acacia honey, peach and tart cherries combine for a very engaging nose. On the palate, a vibrant effervescence enhances an already lively wine with ample freshness, driven by citrus pink grapefruit and lime flavours. The bitter citrus zest flavours are powerful and superbly concentrated. The wine displays the combination of richness and tart tones that is typical of our cool climate and Benjamin Bridge’s terroir-driven wines. A fine sparkling wine is perfect when enjoyed on its own but but to enjoy an inspired food pairing is to discover its true versatility. The ’09 Brut would be a beautiful match for flavourful, vibrant foods, such as seafood, poultry or vegetarian-dishes with a spicy flare.
